In Texas classrooms today, too many Latino children are set up to fail before they even begin. They’re expected to master content in a language they don’t understand, handed tests they can’t read, and labeled “behind” for struggling in a system that was never designed for them. Some are forced to struggle in a classroom that doesn’t meet their needs; others are passed along without ever truly learning. The result? Shame, silence, and eventually, dropping out. But the truth is: the problem isn’t our kids. It’s the barriers placed in their path. Little ChangeMakers exists to tear those barriers down early. When a child has someone who believes in them, who speaks their language, literally and culturally, everything changes. Reading becomes possible. Confidence blooms. A future starts to form. We’re not just teaching kids how to read. We’re giving them back the right to understand, to belong, and to dream. Because no child should feel like school is a place they don’t fit. And no child should be punished for being who they are.
